It was probably the first thing you did when you started planning your event, but choosing the right colors can be the most critical point of planning. Be careful not to make these top ten color mistakes!
1. Don't choose too many colors. - I know, I know. . you started off wanting a pink wedding, then the purples were pretty and the blues. . oh the blues. . trust me, as someone who also loves color I feel your pain. However, when planning an event it is best to choose one or two main colors and add one (possibly two) more as an accent, but be sure that they all coordinate together. Unless you are having a rainbow themed wedding, keep it simple. Too many colors will confuse your guests.
2. Pick and theme and stick with it. - Whether you have decided to go with vintage, classic or modern stick with it. Choose your colors appropriately. Hot pink and lime green are not going to fit into your classic theme.
3. Steer Clear of "Holiday" Colors. - Unless you want your party to be themed as a "holiday party", steer clear of colors that will associate your event with a major holiday. That means no orange and black, red and green, red, white and blue or red and pink combinations.
3. Steer Clear of "Holiday" Colors. - Unless you want your party to be themed as a "holiday party", steer clear of colors that will associate your event with a major holiday. That means no orange and black, red and green, red, white and blue or red and pink combinations.
Tip: If you are planning a holiday themed event, shake up the shades of the colors a bit. Instead of using pumpkin orange, try a shade of tangerine and a grey.
4. Don't be too drab.- Yes, you do need SOME color. While beige and tan are lovely and elegant, they are also boring. Add a pop of color in your centerpieces and accent tables to make your guests swoon.
8. Don't make everything match - If you are making yourself crazy trying to perfectly match every shade of purple to the color in your centerpiece you are trying too hard. Besides, it is much more pleasing to the eye to vary your shades. For instance, using a color scheme of three different shades of purple looks amazing. This can be tricky though, the shades you pick must all be from the same base color. See number 9 for how this can go wrong.
10. Go with what's natural.- Don't force colors, use nature as a guide. When designing your event, think of a theme such as "beach", "English garden" or "woods". Using these themes can help you choose the right shades of color for your event.
Also remember to use your vendors help to create an event that is just as beautiful as you are! This is your event and you should design it true to you. If you love a certain color, let it shine.
