The Cleary University Table Top Competition

This last weekend Special Occasions was honored to be invited to compete in a tabletop competition at Cleary University. The Designer Tabletops event was held at the Johnson Center and also featured a benefit auction to help raise money for student scholarships.

Special Occasions decided to theme our table after the saying "Putting on the Glitz" since this was sure to be a night filled with fun and glamour.

Putting on the Glitz

Our table featured a blush sequins tablecloth, black chiavari chairs with a blush sash and black satin napkins. We even brought along our showroom mascot draped in a matching linen to form a fashionable dress that frankly, we wanted to wear ourselves.

Overall it was a fun night for a great cause and we were honored to take part in it.

Here are a few of the other great table designs featured in the competition. All of them wonderful and creative.

Today's featured wedding took place at the Grand Rapids Art Museum
in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

The guests enjoyed their cocktails at lovely dressed tables in the courtyard and dinner in the Cook Auditorium.

The event linen colors were midnight blue satin & blush glitz. The combination was perfect.

Such a beautiful evening. Congrats to the new bride & groom!

A Blushing Bride : Style Photo Shoot

A few weeks ago we were asked to take part in a stylized bridal photo shoot. Wow, what fun we had!

Just yesterday a pretty little CD arrived in the mail containing the images of the photo shoot and the permission to share these photos with all of you! Excited? We are! Let's take a look!

Gorgeous, right? We couldn't be happier . Now let's take a look at all of the people who came together to make this happen.

Our Sponsorship at the GCS Fundraiser Event

This last weekend Special Occasions was honored to sponsor the linens for the 2014 Genesee Christian School fundraiser auction. The auction was designed after an Arabian Nights theme and the proceeds were collected to help support the schools purchase of new technology and computers for the student computer lab.

The event came together beautifully. The room was bright and jewel toned and the draping that covered the ceiling and walls transported you to a warm Arabian night as you entered the room. The gentle shimmer of the table linens allowed the pink toned uplighting to dance around the room and the centerpieces and design set the ambiance of a fun filled evening.

We would like to thank GCS for allowing us to be a part of their cause.

Our Sponsorship

Every year Special Occasions East sponsors 3-4 charitable events. Sponsorship is typically done in the form of providing chair covers, specialty linens and napkins for the event. For more information on our sponsorship, please visit our website:

Just For Fun { A Vintage Table Top Design Idea }

Disclosure: Products presented in this article were provided to complimentary from the associated business.

Today I thought we would do something a little bit different and fun. As you can imagine, having tons of linens at your disposal everyday can be quite tempting. The creative side of me just can't wait to come into the office and enjoy combining colors, textures and designs to see what I can come up with. My mind is constantly in "event" mode and I can be inspired with a design idea from just about anything during my day to day life. This week I was inspired by a key shaped bottle opener from Little Things Favors and I thought that it might be fun to put together a vintage inspired table top design using the bottle opener as my muse.

Vintage Skeleton Key, Little Things Favors
The bottle opener was cute and nicely packaged, perfect for a fun party favor. However, what good is a bottle opener without something to open? So, for that reason I decided to incorporate a vintage beverage bottle right into our tabletop decor. It can serve as both a decoration and a fun beverage favor that the guests can enjoy right at their seat.

I decided to play off the colors of the bottle, bringing in coppers, reds, blues and whites into the mix for my linens. Probably colors you wouldn't normally think to see together, but actually it works and I quite like it. To help play off the vintage theme I also incorporated vintage car salt and pepper shakers and a mason jar filled with baby's breath. Simple, yet fun.

Like this fun, vintage themed party? Here is what I used to style it:

Linens
 - Copper taffeta table linen
 - Light turquoise blue pintuck runner
 - Red poly napkin
 - Copper chiavari chair with red sash

Table Top Decor
 - Vintage skeleton key bottle opener
 - Mason jar with baby's breath
 - 6 pack of vintage Coke bottles
 - Vintage car salt & pepper shakers
 - black square charger

I hope you enjoyed our fun little table top style today. Is there a certain style you would like to see me design? Let me know in the comments!
